Hey, I’m Theresa

My name is Theresa Pennachio and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist.

I was born in the state of New York, and spent the majority of my childhood and young adulthood in Connecticut. I was always fascinated by PEOPLE, and I found immense fulfilment and purpose in providing support to others. After I graduated with a BA in Psychology and a Minor in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut Storrs (2009), I began my graduate program at Southern Connecticut State University, graduating in 2013 with a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. I held multiple positions during my time in graduate school, and afterwards. This included experience working with ABA and Autistic children in elementary schools, doing in-home therapy work with children and teenagers with behavioral and emotional issues, working in community mental health with underserved populations, and engaging in group, family, and couple’s therapy along the way.

I completed my EMDR training in 2020, and began to enhance my skills and practice as a trauma-informed, EMDR therapist. This helped me to become the comprehensive, compassionate, and thorough therapist I could be to truly help clients understand where they came from, and why it was impacting their present lives.

In January of 2023, I began the journey of becoming an AAMFT Approved Supervisor so that I could support and guide newer therapists into the world of therapy. I am proud to support my field by providing quality supervision and consultation. I am also proud to say that my status should be fulfilled by April of 2025.

I prioritize providing support to clients in their journey of self-discovery. My job is NOT to be judgmental or biased, or to advise clients to do things they do not want to do. I believe that therapy is a process best facilitated by the THERAPEUTIC RELATIONSHIP (aka, therapy is the most effective the more clients like their therapist - duh, right?). This means I value my client’s goals, feedback, and insight. I will do my best to ensure that I earn your trust, so that we may walk this path together in confidence and with hope.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my dog Waffles, traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends. I love being a therapist, but boy, do I love eating sushi too.

I so much look forward to working with you. Let’s use this compass together, and find the direction you were looking for.
